Thanks - that makes sense.  I guess the other reason for a slight wariness
of the .58 finder is using it in low light with, say, a 50mm with aperture
wide open, where focus is obviously critical...  It's hard enough to focus
in dim lighting as it is with the .72, let alone with a .58.  Then after a
pint or two, the focussing - for reasons inexplicable - just gets even
harder. ;)  (The pub is a favourite place to mix work and pleasure).

I bought the 0.58 for precisely this reason--to use it with the wide angles.
I
do not find it more difficult to focus than the 0.72 it replaced with
anything
up to 50mm. With the 90mm it is a bit harder but doable. With the 135mm it
is
really much harder and not recommended unless the focus point is at or close
to
infinity; but even that can be done, the rangefinder patch approximates the
coverage area.
