I go through a three step process.
1)Go through and toss any mis-focus, exposure off, just plain bad. File in
date order with brief description.

2)Wait anywhere from two days to a year then go through the images again,
selecting those that still resonate

3)Scan the lucky winners, burn them to a CD, then print a proof sheet in PS.
Label the CD with a date/number code that matches the proof sheet. File the
CD's and put the proof sheet in a three ring binder. If you are not
professional and critically/viciously edit your images then a 4" D ring
binder lasts a while.

Negatives are labeled and filed in polyethylene "Tupperware" sheet cake
boxes. Their advantage is that they are dust and moisture resistant.
Slides are in archival sheets in three ring binders stacked and overflowing
everything. Maybe I need to do another edit.
