Salgado owes more to W. Eugene Smith than to HOB.  It was Smith who
developed the photo essay and who worked with themes, as Salgado
does.  I think that Salgado had some involvement with Smith at one
time, but the details are unclear.  I know Bob Walkden and I discussed
this point a few months ago.
