Because numerous times in the dark, after opening the cannister I have
scissored the film leader for fitting on a tank reel and one or both edges
have ended up angled and as sharp as a knife, resulting in reel load
failure. Being able to cut the film leader in the light before going into
the dark results in a smooth, straight-across cut that fits onto the
developer reel perfectly.
