Hi all,
I have recently started to shoot more color film than I have before. As I
was dropping off the rolls at a local pro-lab, I realized that I was
spending $25 per roll ($7 film (kodak portra), $18 processing), and had just
taken 3 rolls on a given Saturday. I want to continue to shoot a lot of
film, but the cost will be prohibitive.
I looked into getting just contact sheets, but that winds up more expensive
if you subsequently get more than 5 prints.
What do you folks reccomend?

David,
I have been down that (very long) path. For me, the cost of putting in a JOBO film processor paid for itself in
about 6 month's when equated to my lab bill. That is not counting the huge convenience, travelling time and
associated speeding tickets, crashes and general stress of getting to the lab on time. Best of all, you find a
noticible improvement in colour saturation etc. All this pre-supposes you do your own colour printing. But even if
you don't I would thoroughly reccomend it (more capital outlay of course). If you seriously want to enjoy your
colour, just remember the difference between doing your own B/W as opposed to sending it out. Its the same
IMHO. If you want more detailed info, let me know.
All the best,
JohnA
