My suspicions are that if it is not spelled out in the users manual (like 
it is in R camera manuals) and if it makes a fingernail on blackboard 
noise, it is not "safe" to do.

I personally like the insides of my M cameras therefore I don't wish to 
force them to grind, growl, and squeal.

I abstain.
