I'm unwilling to become more of a Microsoft vassal, which XP would require.
Microsoft is forcing the issue by evolving away from the relatively
harmless Windows 95/98/Me.

Everything that really matters to me is on back-end server computers which
run open-source Unix (FreeBSD), so it's really an issue of what I use for
my desktop. I chose Mac over Linux because the application programs that I
use the most (email, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, iTunes, Netscape)
work better on Mac than on Linux. I also like the Java development
environment on the Mac better. And, I must confess, I got a really nice
discount on the gorgeous Apple Studio Display, which doesn't work at all
with Linux.

I've now gone 2 weeks using my Mac for everything (including connecting to
my servers), so it seems to be working.
