That is a blanket statement. It depends on what kind of in-house work
is being done. Many large companies are using PCs now because their IS
departments can support it more easily with their existing MS networks. 

Then again if you look at 'the Big Boys'(TM) like Dreamworks, ILM,
etc. they are using Linux on their servers *and* workstations. This
may not apply to you as they have their own applications for their
work, but it does signify the big shift they all made which was driven
by cost and performance.
