<Steve, True a lot of us use Canon and Nikon gear- bodies are about the same
<price when you add the motor to the R8, but the Leica glass (new) is about
<double and some of the zooms are 3-4 times that of the other brands. There
<are a few of the Canon wide angles that are very close to the Leica glass
<but very few.

I can think only in the Canon EF 14mm f1:2.8 L. I own and use this lens with
my EOS 1V and its price was on level with Leica glasses. I cannot speak
about comparative quality as I have not used the new Elmar 15mm f1:2.8 made
by Schneider, so I do not know if it is worse or not. My Voigtländer 12mm
f1:5.6 used in a Leica M6 has more vignetting and not more sharpness than
the Canon. I'm using regularly Leica lenses and I find that Canon L lenses
are not very far behind. By the way and speaking about prices you can see,
right now, in Ebay a Nikkor AIS 13mm f1:5.6 whose "buy it now" is $13.7K. I
use the equivalent AIS 15mm f1:3.5 and it is not better than Canon nor
Voigtländer so you can see price is not always produced by the quality but
other factors not always referring to a rational approaching.

Kind regards

Felix
