Without any agreement, the author retains copyright of the individual
message and somebody else could have a copyright on the collection.

If the list provider is providing a service, I see nothing wrong with them
trying to recover expenses and make a profit from their services.  They're
giving list subscribers something.  In return, the posters may be giving the
company back something...such as an unlimited license to use anything the
subscriber posts.  Read the sign up agreements carefully.  :)

If you're concerned, don't use those lists.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Yahoo start to shift toward more fee-based
services.  Interestingly enough, Google is about to pass Yahoo in terms of
search engine saturation.  Measured by how many people arrive at various
sites through all the search engines.
