It depends on your target resolution.  I was think JPGs.

I have found that it is often easier to print and then scan on a flatbed --
transparency adapters don't really work as well as prints.  It doesn't
exactly help than big-format film scanners are megabuck$.

Of course, from 4x5, why would you want to make negs and scan them?  I don't
think that given the output technology, you would get any benefit from that
neg size.

Interesting idea, though.
