Welcome to the list Eric.

I haven't found any lens serial number lists on the web either. The last
redesign started at the 29 range. A number near the 4 million mark implies
fairly recent production so I would assume the built in hood version; which
is the latest version. I have a Summicron alleged to be late last model
production that starts 33XXXXXX. My DR Summicron serial number starts 2233
and was late-mid sixties production to give some feel for time/production.
The earliest Summicrons were sub-million 92 in the 1952-53 era as a rough
guide.

As to the code number Leica has a model number for just about everything so
perhaps your dealer was thinking you were asking for Leica's earlier
practice of naming their products. An example would be SBOOI for a 50mm
bright line finder which also had a product number 12015.

I hope this helps,

Don
