Take a look at the Sekonic 508 - It's not small, but I think it's smaller
than the Pentax...has a variable spot - 1 to 4 degrees - is also an incident
meter, and can be set to read a number of different ways. It's my all-around
meter and does the trick...

Subject: [Leica] The M6 Spotmeter

Hi all,

I have an M6 TTL which I just love, but all this talk of the M7 and it's
variable shutter brought this issue back up for me. Is there anyone past or
present manufacturing a 1 deg Spotmeter similar to the Pentax but much
smaller in size? I have been told by Robert White my dealer that the Pentax
I already have is the smallest 1 deg spot. Is that true? From searching the
Web I think it unfortunately is. The Pentax is small-ish ok, but a MPITA to
carry everywhere I go. You see I take my M6 absolutely everywhere, slinging
it over one arm and under my jacket (ooerr) but some of the time I want my
Pentax too.. This + film + filters etc makes a pretty bulky little package,
so I sometimes hesitate taking the lot into London (for instance).
Invariably, the time I don't take it, is the time I need it most. Sigh. ;) I
already have a little Gossen meter for incident readings but I really am a 1
deg spot meter man. Unfortunately the M's spot is just too big for me those
extreme circumstances I need my 1 deg spot. I shoot slide film 90% of the
time. I really should stop whinging. ;) Actually most of the time I use my
Leica belt case and put the spotmeter+film in there. I don't find this case
of much use with my M + 35 pre asph as it constantly tries to pull my
trousers down. LOL

On another tack, has anyone ever made the white spot on the shutter curtain
smaller, or does the sensor itself expect that spot to be of a certain size?
I guess so. I have no idea how the meter actually works but could this
possibly be achieved? Sacrificing an M6 to try this doesn't exactly turn me
on, but just a wacky thought..

Cheers,
Neil
