US Army Engineers swear that the Ordnance Corps maintenance (their general
support) only uses a special tool called a "BFH" -- a 'big fuckin' hammer'
- -- you beat the item to pieces, and then turn it in for DX (direct
exchange for a rebuilt or new replacement).

One time, 'way back in '77, I was staff on LOGEX, then a major (i.e.,
Department of Defense level) exercize run at the time at Fort Pickett,
Virginia. I was then an Ordnance Corps captain (a commissioned officer),
with a specialty of Tech Supply. We had a staff party at the end, and a
couple of Engineer Corps sergeants (non-commissioned officers, guys with a
lot of on-hands knowledge but subordinate to commissioned officers) showed
up in a VW Beetle. At the end, their car wouldn't start. I asked them for
a "BFH", slipped under the car, tapped the solenoid sharply, and slipped out.

I said, "It'll start now." One of them, looking skeptical, slipped into the
driver's seat and turned the key. The car fired right up.

I smiled and said, "You guys have to hearn -- sometimes, a BFH IS the right
tool!" General applause from the crowd. I bowed, and pulled one of the
sergeants over to tell him that the car really needed its solenoid cleaned
or replaced.

SUPPORT FORWARD!

Marc
