Subject: [Leica] Re: Focusing Qickly with Leica lenses

Lea,
I think you can become quicker at focusing if you'll take a moment to sit
down and look at the markings on your lenses. All of the Leica lenses that I
know and use are all set up with their markings in a 1/4 turn of the focusing
ring. Older lenses usually have a 1/2 turn of the focusing ring. Look at
all of your lenses and I'll bet that they all fall into one category. The
trick is this - learn where the distances are on your lenses and you can
almost set focus without looking through a viewfinder. That is the beauty of
a Leica. Some of my gear is newer and some is very old. I KNOW that the
people that used this gear in the 40's and 50's learned that. If you play
with a screw-mount Leica with a window for focusing and a window for viewing
a 50mm lens and then another viewfinder for all your other lenses....I think
you'll figure out that they had to KNOW where the lens turned to focus at a
certain distance. Hope this helps you.
