I don't speak Gaelic, but all four of my grandparents of blessed memory did, and they all tried to teach it to me. I wish I had let them. I feel a sense of cultural emptiness for not knowing my family's native language.
I am told that the family motto of my mother's side of the family, in Gaelic, translates into English roughly as "don't fuck with me".
