She called and asked if I would have a look at an old camera he had, but it appeared like it wasn't any good and she thought she'd throw it away or if I might want it. Went to see, it was a Leica A, I think something like that with a 4 or 5 digit serial number. And very beat up. So she says did I think it was worth anything? Now I know I'm looking at a possible collector leica, so I set the slow shutter speed dial and tripped the shutter and sure enough it went zzzzzzz click! Surprised the hell out of me that it worked, well sort of. So she asks again, did I think it was worth much and I mumbled something to the effect that I didn't think so because it didn't sound like it was working and offered her $50 bucks for it. Flabbergasted she exclaimed, "that much? Well that would be nice if you think so." So I whipped out a fifty and went on my way with this collector beauty. ;-) OK OK OK before any of you get yer knickers in a knot that I ripped the "widow off" let me explain a minor detail. This wasn't yer everyday widow, this was like a multi million dollar widow! :-) money beyond your wildest dreams. However, yep she took the $50.00 and smiled. Now the end of this little caper. I sent the camera to Leica Canada to make it like new and they did. And I received an invoice for the complete work over make new.... $535.00 plus taxes. Ah gee whiz eh, it doesn't pay to kinda rip off a widow even if she's got millions. :-) Certainly when you think it's a steal you've just made. :-) So I figure this guy got a neat bargain on the M whatever it is, so let it be.
