Actually, it's very easy and inexpensive to get
excellent slides, or negatives to be silver-printed,
from a digital file.

Take a look at the following shop:

Here in DC I can also get them done at the National
Geographic lab and a couple of other good places.

batteries-free operation, in the other hand, it's
quite an issue for me.
