ernie,

my guess is your eyes are probably just fine.

i think the CV 'pancake' is a neat little
lens, but generally under-appreciated and now
discontinued. same optics as the CV 35mm
'classic,' but a favorite of mine for street work
because of its short focus throw. got one
when it first came out, had it appropriated by
my daughter who used it as her main lens
for a year of intensive immersion in china, and
it is now serving another lengthy tour of duty as
my son's sole lens in africa. it's surprisingly sharp
and handles well when mounted on an M body or hexar rf,
and it's pretty unremarkable looking (a plus in my view).
for most of my shooting it's easy to live with f2.5
when the max aperture performance is of a high enough
standard. admittedly we mostly shoot b&w with it
so cannot comment knowledgably on its color rendition,
but in b&w it can deliver fine detail and rich continuous tonality. when it was recently discontinued i picked up
another one for myself because it's modestly priced and
won't be seen again (plus my son will be in africe for
a while).

I just got this lens and find that wide open ( admittedly f/2.5) it's
very sharp. What am I missing? I was not expecting a nice little lens
for <$200 . Are my eyes going bad?
