My father - Robert Welch - exposed the John Birch Society for what they
were when he worked counter-espionage agent for the OSS. He found a
funding source connected through Germany that proved the Soviet Union
was sending them (unwittingly) money. It was, at the time, the belief
in the Soviet Union that anything that caused chaos was good. And the
John BIrch Society was one factor they considered caused chaos.
Obviously, my father isn't THAT Robert Welch. But when I talk to John
Birches, it really confuses them when I tell them that story. :-)
