It is a common phenomena. Do it yourself mechanics, carpenters, 
plumbers, lawyers (wills, etc), and on it goes. There are are also a 
great number of mediocre professionals which only serve to encourage 
this sort of, quite justifiable at times, thinking. If you want quality 
you have to pay or spend a long time learning.
