And $450-$600 is, given the market place, just what a camera with the
described feature set should cost.

That is indeed disappointing.   Though the Panasonic LC1 price should be
considerably lower.  My guess still is at just under a grand, though the
feature set doesn't look worth $500 more than the LC1. 

The D-lux is about $820  The Panasonic camera it is derived from sells
for $325. No leather case or red dot.

The Digilux 1 sold for $895, my Panasonic LC5 was about $500. The lens
still says "Leica."  (I know gnomes did not grind the elements.)
