Subject: [Leica] Joining The Fray In 2004

Hello Everyone!

I wish all a very pleasant and peaceful holiday season, wherever you are and
whatever you celebrate.

After having been a digest subscriber and rather occasional subscriber for
the past several years, I have decided to join the fray and become a regular
subscriber for 2004.

So that regular contributors may get to know me, I am a retired business
model and market development strategist specialized in high technology,
mostly mobile computing and wireless communications. I have been a Leica
owner and user continuously since 1956, when I received a slightly used M3
and collapsible 50mm Summicron as a graduation gift from a doting uncle.
Most of my photography tends to be about the often-tenuous boundary between
nature’s beauty and man’s invention. I have a reputation as a “constant
carrier” – meaning that I can always be seen toting and using a camera in
all sorts of situations.

Although I do own several digital cameras, for the present I seem to prefer
capturing most kinds of images on film, scanning them through a Coolscan
4000 into my Macintosh, cleaning things up in Photoshop and outputting to an
Epson 2200. Films I use most are Tri-X and T400CN in my M-Series cameras,
and E100VS and FujiPress 800 in my R-Series. Occasionally, I will use Scala
for a particular opportunity. I am disappointed to date with my 2200 B/W
output and plan to work this problem seriously in 2004, either by diving
into Piezography or perhaps scquiring one of the purpose-built HP 7960
inkjets.

My goal in becoming a regular LUGger in 2004 is to participate in online
discussions in which I believe I may have something of value to offer and to
begin sharing my photographic output with you, seeking your advice,
commentary and guidance in becoming a better, more accomplished photographer
and printer.

Thanks to all of you from whom I have learned so much, especially Messrs.
Barbour, Colen, Firkin, Grant, Rabiner, Ridings and Shulman. I hope to be
able to return the favor in some small measure over time.

With warm regards,

Len
