With very few exceptions, the U.S. didn't have coffee shops serving a
world-wide array of coffees until Starbucks. Starbucks is an excellent
place to work. All employees get health insurance and profit sharing,
and they have a program to aid small coffee growers. The local coffee
shops in my neighborhood began in imitation of Starbucks. Starbucks was
very much a trend setter, and quality coffee lovers owe them a bit of
gratitude.
