If the pumps in New Orleans fail, it will out-Venice them all, and is most  
certainly the only Mediterannian City in the U.S.

As much I like Brussels, Brugge, and of  course Copenhagen, if any city
can claim to be a Venice of the North, it  must be Amsterdam.

Brussels was described by someone (an American  writer, I think) as the
world's northern-most Mediterranean city. Having  lived there for 5
years, I have to  agree.
