According to Leica's 1965 Catalog No. 38, dated 2/65, [all in USDollars]
the M1 was $188, the M2S was $297 and the M3 was $345.
All in black finish, the 50mm Summicron/f2 [rigid mount] was $180, the
50mm Summilux f1.4 was $243 and the 135mm Elmarit f/2.8 [with collapsible lens
hood and filter-retaining ring for Ser. 7 filter] was $258. The 35mm Summaron
f/2.8 [with optical viewing unit] for the M3 was $165. All include Federal
Excise Tax.
The most expensive leather case for the camera was $21.60.
Leica actually ran an ad, which I have mounted on a poster somewhere in
my files, pointing out that the value of the Ms in those days -- I don't
remember the exact date-- was somewhere close to these prices. -- bob cole
