Subject: [Leica] How is life in Boston this week?

Hey Buzz,
I am just calibrating press reports to reality. My experience at the
Olympics indicated to me that the press was not doing any real
reporting, but was just passing on a fax or a press report.

One of the knocks out of Atlanta was low security. As Ted has said,
security was tough. If you did not have the correct credentials and
were not willing to strip for the metal detectors you did not get behind
the scenes. I know one IOC cat who was some furious when he was kept
out of a hotel with the free WWS because he left his infinity badge
somewhere else. Even if the security guys knew you, had seen you every
day for twenty one days, if you didn't have the correct badge for the
place you wanted to go, you didn't go there. Unless the President was
in the area and then you just didn't get to go any where nearby.

I am glad that Boston can handle a middling size convention. I suspect
that NY will get along just fine with the crowds. New Yorkers seem to
cope with almost anything. You will see a lot of whining about
protesting and why they can't protest outside Madison Square but for the
most part, NYC will just get along. After all, it took just a few
months to pick itself back up after 3000 people were murdered in Lower
Manhattan.

What makes you ask?

In fact, since I only need to travel in Cambridge and one or two
adjacent towns and only into the very fringes of Boston, traffic control
and security have not affected me at all. In fact, traffic in Cambridge
and environs has been lighterthan usual.
