Some people are afraid of what will be done with the info, such as
sell email addresses, resulting in spam.  And the newspapers claim
they want it to target ads.

For the record, I registered legit with the NY Times, LA Times and
Chicago Tribune. For some reason the way the Washington Post did
things ticked me off, and I refuse to give them anything close to
legit.
