Alastair,

Indeed there is a photoshop learning curve. I had tried to step in 
gently using 'Photoshop Elements' but the colors were awful. When I 
went in whole hog with a ICC calibrated workflow, i.e. Spyder 
calibrated monitor, Photoshop 7/CS, and the Epson 2200 with printer 
profiles for each paper, I finally got good results.

For color, the results can be impressive. I will post another couple of 
photos that I've rescued via digital techniques.
