Karen--

Unfortunately, offering Leicas at dealer cost would not offer much of a
discount to the students. I hate to burst your bubble, but dealers aren't
cleaning up. I hope someone is, but it ain't us! It takes lotsa Leica sales
to make a buck. Margins are narrower than with other brands.

Need blind doesn't mean you get a free ride. Macalester is need blind.

All it means is that they'll accept you regardless of finances. The
financial package, however, may involve a lot more. Usually it
involves taking out loans, the student working on campus, and the
parents getting an extra job or leasing a room in their house for
more money. Most college students are leaving school these days with
quite onerous debt. This is very unfortunate, in my opinion, because
it means that less will take jobs working at non-profits or as public
servants because they can't make ends meet.

Ask any parent of a college-age kid, it's expensive and just because
there's financial aid doesn't mean that they have a spare $2500 for a
Leica for the little brat.... I mean kid.

Anyway, I have an idea! If you've decided that giving is good -- why
not offer Leicas at dealer cost to any student who asks? You'll
sell tons, make lots of goodwill in the community, and so forth.
After all, think globally act locally, right?
