Hello Richard,

I think your disclaimer does you a disservice. Your photos
deserve better than than that. I think your techniques have
improved remarkedly over this past year or so, your models
seem like they really enjoy themselves (relating to your
models is the #1 skill in this kind of shooting, in my experience),
Congratulations ! And I mean it in admiration.

In my opinion, you would get more feedback on the LUG and
probably elsewhere if you edit the photos and show each audience
a smaller sample, offering different portfolios to different audiences.
You have enough of great photos, so that even a small percentage
gives plenty for an interested viewer to look at and comment
meaningfully. For example, I would be hard pressed to tell you
which are the best, because honestly I didn;t look at them alll there
are just too many. I sampled many half of the pages, and look at
the first few pages fully, then only enlarge the thumnails that are
initeresting or different from what I have seen before.

The only technical comment I have is to try short lighting (or shooting from
the shadow side as Ted would say) and see if you like it any better.
Just place the light on the other side, of have the models face the other
way so the main light is on the side of the face closer to the camera.
If for nothing else, it will add some variety in your portfolio. In my
case,
I now prefer it for 90% of my photos, when I have the choice.

Regardless, I would like to repeat that the quality of your costume
portraits
have improved a lot, both in terms of technique (use of studio lights), and
more importantly your relation to the models. You have worked hard at
it, and it shows. Yes, I know one the beautiful models is your wife, but I
bet
if you go back to your work from last year, it will show that even she
models
better now, in no small part because undoubtedly you direct her better.

Thanks for posting,

- Phong
