UC Davis has had "early voting" going since last week to great effect. 

I like early voting because it tends to deminish the tendency of
campaigns to run last minute hit-pieces.

Here it's possible to be designated as a permanent "vote by mail"
voter and it's what I do. I can sit at my desk with the voter
phamphlets, the internet, and decide. It sure has made me more
thoughtful, especially when more and more California is governed by
the initiative process.
