If money was the only issue, no one but the idle rich would ever buy M cameras. Certainly there is the fact that they are rangefinders in a reflex world; that they are beautifully made mechanical objects; that they do what they're supposed to do, as they're supposed to do it, every time you want them to do it; that they are 'one' with the user. However, many people believe that the cameras hold their value - and while they used to hold much of their value, that just isn't as true anymore. But alas, with the dying of film, it is no longer true. While Leica equipment may hold its value better than most film equipment, it is no longer holding it the way it did even a year ago. M6 TTLs purchased for $1995 were selling for about $1450 in near mint condition - now they're down to about $1150 - if you're lucky- and used M7s, which are now selling for, what, around $2800, are only worth approximately 50% of their new priced once they've been driven off the lot. I've read that at F2 Summicron is better, that at 5,6 are similar. But nobody has already talk me about the mentioned "personality" , or fingerprint. In other words, colours and or black and white gradation, subtlety, differences in capability to isolate the main subject., these are the important points for me, and I'm not discussing for the perfection, I'm discussing about the impression that this lens could give. I ask this question because I have a reasonable offer for a Summilux 50 (E46), and I don't know if it paid's invest .., or burn the money on it.
