Robert, according to Sartorius, the Apo-Telyt-R 180mm, f3.4 lens takes a
Series 7.5 filter with adapter 14263. He adds that starting with Series
No.
2,947,024 the lens also takes the E60 filter.
He notes that the lens starts from approximately Serial No. 2,735,000 and
since yours is Serial No. 2,749,291 you have an early model and, there,
take
a Series 7.5 filter with the adapter mentioned above.
A footnote says that it was initially produced with two cams for use with
the leicaflex sl and sl2 and, beginning with Serial No. 2,749,556 with
three
cams for use also with the R series cameras. He adds that it was designed
for
military use, with a new type of optical glass called flourite with "low
dispersion properties" that "offered excellent details and brilliancy never
before achieved with this focal length."
It sounds to me if this lens was ordered by the military for use in
aerial
spy photography.
