I'd bet money that this is a problem, perhaps even *the* problem.
Vibration is a real problem for disks, and fans can cause vibration. It's
fine to blow air across a disk. I'm much less sanguine about a disk being in
mechanical contact with something that has fans in it.
If the ambient air temperature in the room is low enough (72F/22C) then you
oughtn't need any kind of additional cooling. If I properly understand your
computing environment, then I recommend that you lose that cooling platform.
