Daniel,
Truly, the best bet for almost no money is one of the Soviet Jupiter
whatever 50mm F1.5 lenses. Some of the latest ones were multicoated
and even the monocoated versions are really quite good under normal
conditions. Better, especially for flare or lack thereof , than any
of the Leica fifties form the fifties. The Summitar and Summicron
have their virtures, but for optical quality for the money you cant
beat the Sonnar clone.

If the commie lenses seem a little cheap to you for serious long term
ownership, then either the Nikor 50 F1.4 or the Canon Serenar 50mm
F1.5 are very well built Sonnar knockoffs that have similar quite good
performance.

In short, before you commit to the approximately $200 for a Summitar
use one of the Sonnars first.
