i think the controversial issue is over the quality of the early M4-2's
made in canada in 1977, whether they were bad or whether all M4-2's were bad
or whether there was no problem.

there is a secondary issue over whether ALL cameras made after the
original M4 in 1975 have the same quality as the M2, M3, M4.  steel gears vs
brass, other subtle changes.
