I've used "Foto Station" from the company "Fotoware".

It came in several versions. All worked the same, but the more
expensive versions were multi-user. It came along with my D100 when I
bought it a few years ago.

It was really good at a lot of things, in particular it could
catalogue even off-line media. So you could catalogue all of your CD:s
and removable harddisks.

The single user version wasn't very expensive. The mulit-user
versions, like Tina pointed out, could get expensive in a hurry.

But it was FotoStation from a company called Fotoware. I'm not sure if
it was the same thing.
