Sorry if my labeling of the "Old Leica Factory" was misleading. Nathan and
Mark's explanations of Leica vs. Leitz and Wetzlar vs. Solms are correct.
However, I was told that Leitz still manufactures their microscopes in a
small part of the Wetzlar factory.

Regarding how I was "sponsored" on this trip, again I might have given the
reader the wrong impression. What I meant was that between my local Reed's
Cameras store and Leica they put together a photography trip to Germany.
Leica organized the trip, picked out the destinations and made the local
arrangements, etc. They also accompanied us on the trip (Ralph Hagenauer
from the Leica Academy and Tom Brichta our Leica US rep for our region).
After hosting us to a day at the Leica factory in Solms, they led our tour
through Germany for nine days. However, all 16 participants paid a fee to go
on this trip and it was well worth the money.

Speaking of the Solms factory, here is a picture of it along with our group
photo. For what it is worth, I'm in the back row under the letter "C" in
Leica and in a teal colored shirt and my wife is in front of me in a white
shirt (probably more information than you wanted).
