This was exactly my point--I drank lots of St. Pauli Girl when I lived 
in the US, but have never encountered it in Germany, whether north or 
south--and I have done extensive beer research in all parts of that 
country ;-)

It is a bit like Stella Artois--in Belgium it has the status similar to 
Old Milwaukee in the US, but in the UK it is a premium brand. Brilliant 
marketing, if not brilliant beer-making....
