bruce,
yes one can water mark alright, however if the photograph is spectacular 
enough, it's quite simple to remove a water mark and other "safe keeping 
markings" supposedly saving the image from being stolen.

The clients he deals with know and understand his style. If they're 
interested in a shot he has an instant response method to enlarge. I'm sure 
looking at his photography and it's quality you can understand why his work 
is fair game for theft by unscrupulous SOB's!
