Subject: [Leica] OT: EV to lux conversion
From: brad at bradbrad.com (brad daly)

esteemed optical knowledgees,

i need to know how to convert EV readings to lux. i have found the
formula

lux = 2.5 x 2^EV

siting here at my desk, i have an EV reading of 8, so

lux = 2.5 x 2^8

or

lux = 640

what i really need to know is this, if the original formula is indeed
the correct one. that is, i need to be able to solve for x in this
equation:

10,000 lux = 2.5 x 2^x

i need to know what EV reading equals 10,000 lux.

the problem is that i can't remember how to solve for x as an
exponent. fairly simple math, i realize, but something i've
completely forgotten how to do.
