I love space when it serves a powerful function - which in the horse
photograph it certainly does. I remember the mid sixties VW beetle
ads as some of the most powerful use of white space ever. However
when a photograph holds powerful subject matter which seems to suffer
at the expense of the space (as in - not close enough - or the space
vying for attention) then I think a crop may be in order. At the same
time - shooting for 'stock' these 'spaces' can be your friend. I can
imagine a double page spread where your foregrounds could allow for
some wonderful placement of headline and text. But as a photograph
standing on it's own - I found a few of them to have the space
distracting my attention from the subject.
