Subject: [Leica] Amsterdam Pride 2006

By now, many major cities in North America and Europe have their annual
gay pride events, but the one held in Amsterdam the first weekend of
August ranks among the biggest and best in the world. One of the unique
features is that the floats of the parade actually float, since they are
on boats floating down the city's canals. This past Saturday the weather
was gorgeous, not too hot but sunny and warm, the beer was cold and
cheap, and we went to see the parade with our friends Felix and Stefan.
We also had an excellent vantage point, since Stefan (also a keen
photographer) and I squatted on a seemingly abandoned boat, so we had
the view from water level.

I took somewhere between 300 and 350 pictures, which I whittled down to
217 by eliminating the obvious mistakes such as focusing errors and the
like. Editing from there was really hard (the saying about the
photographer being his own worst editor probably applies here), and I
ended up with the 54 images I show here. I also tried something
different regarding processing. Usually I adjust each image
individually, but this time I decided to use the automation of the
various tools to get the gallery on the web quickly. So I converted the
selected images using the automatic settings in Photoshop Element's RAW
converter, then applied the sharpening filter to the images in bulk, and
finally converted the lot to JPEG in one go using Photo Mechanic. So
every image is uncropped, and the color balance, levels etc. is whatever
my Powerbook thought it should be. The results are here:

WARNING: due to the nature of this event (and the good weather), there
is a fair amount of exposed flesh and other lewdness in this set of
images. Do not open if you are easily offended or if your boss is
looking over your shoulder ;-)
