Eric,

Have you tried putting something like a folded towel under the drive  
to isolate it from the desk? Do you get mechanical noise or just  
excessive air movement? As a last resort you could get a long USB  
cable and put the drive in another room. A drive of that size  
probably has high RPM and needs all the cooling it can get. But  
thanks for the warning. I think I'll get 2 smaller drives rather than  
one big one.
