Subject: [Leica] OT: Redress of grievance / Iraq

The beauty of our nation is individuality and the ability to express that.
Today's military, though voluntary, is still a very close mirror to civilian
society. No one joins the military so they can go to war. We join because
we want to take part in the benefits of service during and after our hitches
are done. That said, with the whole of our society represented in our
military, how many of us died for a war that we didn't agree with? I went
to Iraq, served proudly alongside friends who died. I think about them
every day, sometimes every waking moment. Why did I leave unscathed
physically? I lost another one of my Seabee brothers just two days ago. I
have known people who died in Iraq but didn't agree with the administration.
Our political opinions don't matter out there. We don't serve for the
greater good of the nation while in combat. We serve to save our asses &
those of the others in our squads. Back home this war is an argument of
rhetoric blue vs. red. There is no rhetoric out in the streets of Fallujah
or any other Iraqi city. There's only your comrades during those moments
and you are there only for them, they for you.

ditto. i don't mind 'OT' if it is entertaining or at least
not mean-spirited.
