Hi Hoppy!

Thanks for the pointer...  but I was rather hoping to get it done 
today, as I need the lens tomorrow.

Doug Herr (on the LRflex list) was able to give me some help on this.

I was very lucky.... the lens seems to have survived perfectly, other 
than the lens shade dent.  The focus us smooth and still seems 
accurate.  Same with the zoom function.  (One beauty of digital is 
the ability to conduct quick tests!)  But the sound was **most** 
unpleasant... not to mention what it did to my heart rate!
