Larry - Any dust removing program is going to soften the image 
slightly, but Digital ICE, at least the version with my Nikon LS5000, 
does a much better job than any other one I've used.  You can add the 
sharpness back in PS after the dust is removed.  With the LS5000, it 
takes about twice as long to use Digital ICE.  The GEM and ROC 
filters add even more time if you use them.
