Daniel, I do really like the tones of the rocks in the altered version.
However the sky is completely posterised as I see it here.
Cheers

On my train ride this evening I had a chance to play around with LightZone.

I used this shot:

Compare the processing of the same shot with LightZone:

It is easy to do "split filter" printing, adjusting contrast in the high
end of the scale, without affecting the darker tones and vice versa.

I am not pro at this. I downloaded it just recently and haven't really
had a chance to learn much. There are some good tutorials on the company
site and also on the DigitalOutBack site.

The system is inspired by the zone system and it is a lot more intuitive
(for me) as a photographer who has done things in the darkroom.

It works painlessly with layers and non-desstructive editing. All of
your changes are saved in a separate file (takes about 100 kb) and when
this file is combined with your original file, you get a result that can
be printed or exported or whatever.

Pretty nifty stuff.
