Subject: [Leica] Archival Qualities of Slide Films

A few days ago, Hoppy commented on the qualities retained by my 50+ years
old Kodachrome slides that I posted in my Cigar Box album. At the time, I
knew that some of my slided had deteriorated, but was not sure which ones.
After several days of work with them, I will submit the following comments.
YMMD with 50 year old film.

Best: Kodachrome. Very good color retention and detail.

Acceptable: Anscochrome. Slightly green cast, but good detail.

Worst: Ektachrome. The slides now have a very red tint, the contrast is
poor, and the level of detail has deteriorated.

Bad Choice: When our first son was born, in 1955, I shot pictures with
Ektachrome because I thought it was a better film than
Kodachrome. I am struggling to get any kind of acceptable results from
scans of these slides.
